Less than a week after the Cannabis Act received royal assent, the Canadian government has announced the creation of new regulations.
However, these new rules, which will cover everything from packaging rules to analytic testing to cultivation, are not on the Health Canada website.
Instead, people have two options:
• wait until they’re published in the Canada Gazette, Part II, on July 11, 2018;
• or email [email protected] or phone 1-866-337-7705 and request a copy from the Cannabis Legalization and Regulation Branch.
In addition, the regulations address such issues as micro-size licences and the use of industrial hemp.
‘We’ve taken a public health approach to the legalization and strict regulation of cannabis to ensure that proper precautions are in place to protect Canadians, especially youth,’ Health Minister Ginette Petitpas Taylor said on her ministry’s website. ‘The Cannabis Act and its regulations provide strict national standards and oversight for the production, distribution and sale of legal, quality-controlled cannabis, which will help protect public health and safety.’
The Cannabis Act and its associated regulations take effect on October 17.
