There’s a lot of talk about testing cannabis ingested by humans.
But a B.C. company has gone one step further and obtained the National Animal Supplement Council’s certification for its pet supplements that include hemp seeds.
True Leaf Pet Inc. was founded in 2015 as a subsidiary of Vernon-based True Leaf Medicine International Ltd.
Its True Hemp dog chews, dental sticks, and supplement oils are sold in stores in North America and Europe.
“NASC is one of the highest-level certifications in the pet industry,” True Leaf founder and CEO Darcy Bomford said in a news release. “Our True Hemp products will now display the NASC Seal meaning True Leaf has committed to the highest current standards of quality and safety in the animal supplement industry today.”
The council states that the NASC seal ‘identifies products from companies that are committed to quality, vigilance, and continuous improvement to promote the well-being of companion animals and horses’.
This program was created in response to the U.S. federal government efforts to provide buyers of pet-related merchandise and food an assurance that these products have been certified.
True Leaf Medicine International is chaired by former B.C. premier Mike Harcourt.
Earlier this year, the Straight reported that it’s developing a 25,000-square-foot cannabis-growing facility in Lumby, B.C.
True Leaf International is trading at $0.64 on the Canadian Securities Exchange (as of this writing) and has a market capitalization of $75.6 million.
