Dabbing Concentrates Guide

If you are new to dabbing, it may be mildly confusing, as you do not always know how to begin. This said, dabbing once learned can become a very simple and straightforward process. Thus, if you are interested in learning how to dab effectively, please continue reading this article.

Firstly, it is crucial to discuss what dabbing is. Dabbing refers to the process of applying heat to cannabis concentrates resulting in vapourization that is then subsequently inhaled. The concentrates produced are substantially more potent than the marijuana plant itself, so you do not require a large amount. In terms of their THC content, concentrates can range from 50-80% potency, while regular bud hovers around 10-15% in comparison. If you are interested in the potential therapeutic benefits without the high, you may want to look into non-intoxicating CBD extracts to fit your needs. However, depending on your location this can sometimes become difficult to acquire.

Before we delve into the process of dabbing, it should be mentioned that for some individuals it may not be the best option, particularly if you have no prior experience with marijuana. This is because it can sometimes be difficult to find the right amount for you. As mentioned, the potency of the cannabinoids is often considerably higher, meaning higher amounts of THC and CBD among other things will be present. Due to the fact that some people react very differently to cannabinoids of various potency levels, it is important that you closely monitor your intake to ensure you are dabbing appropriately. As such it is important to embark on this journey carefully, as it can sometimes be slightly complex, but can also result in an extremely enjoyable experience if done right.

Tools Required to Dab

There is not just one way to dab, but the most common method is the following:

  1. Get a cannabis extract. CO2, solventless extracts such as rosin, as well as BHO, are regularly used for dabbing. It is not advisable to use alcohol-based solvents or any other solvent that you are unsure of.
  2. Water pipe. To create an instrument for dabbing, you can replace components of the bowl with pieces particularly for dabbing.
  3. A Nail. A nail, preferably made of titanium that fits your water pipes gauge is most often required.
  4. A dome. A dome is a cylindrical piece of glass that goes around the nail. There are nails that do not need one, but generally speaking, most nails cannot trap vapour without the aid of the dome.
  5. A torch. Torches that utilize propane will be able to light the nail more effectively, but any torch can do the job.
  6. A dabber. Made out of several materials, the dabber refers to the instrument that an individual uses for the application of a dab.

How Much Oil is Needed to Dab?

As a general rule of thumb, due to the fact that the oil can vary in potency, it is advised only to put a small amount on at first and slowly put more as you see fit. a drop the size of a crumb is often all that is needed, especially if you are new to it. Once you become more accustomed to the dose, you can then slowly begin to add more over time.

How to Dab

Now that you are more familiar with what dabbing is, as well as the instruments that are commonly used, it is now time to turn our attention to how to actually dab. The following list contains a step by step tutorial in which to aid you in the proper and most commonly methods most used by those who have experience with dabbing.

Step 1) Heat the nail with your torch until it becomes red. e-nails not needing the use of a torch will be discussed below.

Step 2) Once the nail has heated, place the glass dome over it. Depending on the material of the nail, it may take more or less time until the nail adequately cools off .For example, a nail made from titanium will usually take around ten seconds to cool off, while nails made of quartz will generally take longer, cooling down in about forty-five seconds. To learn more about low-temperature dabbing, you may want to look into this article.

Step 3) Apply a dab with your dabber onto the nail while inside the dome, once done, slowly inhale. Rotate the dabber’s tip to avoid oil clinging onto it.

Step 4) Be sure to exhale and have fun.

Be advised: When heating glass domes and nails they become dangerously warm, please let the instruments fully cool down before handling them again.

Explaining Dome-less Nails and E-Nails

While this article has previously discussed dabbing methods that require the use of torches and glass bowls, there are in fact some alternatives that allow for dabbing without these materials. For example, dome-less nails refer to a metal instrument that does not require the use of a glass dome when dabbing to encapsulate vapour. While you will still need to heat it, the nail contains various holes allowing for the vapour to travel straight through it. As for e-nails, otherwise referred to as electronic nails do not require the use of a glass dome nor a torch to light the nail while allowing for manual regulation of its temperature. As a result of these features, e-nails are more expensive but can be worth it in the long run for a true dabbing enthusiast.
