Liquor retailer JAK’S Beer Wine Spirits is planning to open a number of recreational pot shops in B.C.
The company made disclosure in an application it filed before the City of Vancouver to develop a weed store in South Granville.
According to the retailer, it has developed a pot retail brand called Muse.
“JAK’S is uniquely positioned to participate in the non-medical cannabis industry because of our extensive experience in retailing controlled substances and our strong financial position,” the company states in its operational letter.
The New Westminster-based retailer was founded by John Andrew Kettlewell in 1981.
“Our liquor business provides a strong cash flow to support our expansion into cannabis,” the company notes.
JAK’S is proposing to develop a pot shop at 3039 Granville Street, former site of a home furniture store.
According to the company, it is looking to open retail stores in ‘densely populated urban areas and growth oriented suburban markets’.
The retailer has liquor store to the north of the site at 2658 Granville Street.
