MMJ Canada has its first licensed dispensary in the City of Vancouver.
Earlier this week, the brand with dispensaries in B.C. and Ontario moved its South Vancouver store from a location on Main Street to a new shop in the neighbourhood at #205 225 SE Marine Drive.
The shop is one of three MMJ Canada dispensaries in the city.
The company’s CEO Clint Younge announced the opening of the new location with a video on his Facebook page on December 19.
‘The team really went all out for this one, especially it being the first licensed one in Vancouver,’ he says in the video.
In a phone call with the Straight, Younge said the new location’s clean design and variety of product help set it apart from other dispensaries.
‘We carry a lot of award-winning strains, and the way we’re designed and set up is very ’boutique’,’ he said.
Customers looking for flowers can choose from around 32 different varieties of cannabis, as well as a concentrates, topicals, and capsules, he said.
According to the latest data from the City of Vancouver, 42 dispensaries in the city have been issued development permits, three have been issued compassion club business licences, and another 12 have been issued retail business licences.
Since April 2016, a total of 42 pot shops have complied with regulations and closed down, or are no longer selling cannabis.
Presently, 71 of Vancouver’s 100-plus dispensaries are subject to enforcement.
As of December 19, 2017, a total of 2,458 tickets have been issued. Of those, 425 have been paid.
Another 53 injunctions have also been filed.
