While Burnaby RCMP were shutting down an illegal cannabis dispensary, police seized thousands of cannabis plants at a grow-op elsewhere in the Lower Mainland.
Mission RCMP stated on August 20 that an investigation had been launched into the illegal interprovincial shipping of cannabis packages, of up to 23 kilograms (50 pounds), that were being delivered by couriers.
On August 14, RCMP officers used a search warrant at a property in the 32800 block of Cameron Avenue in in Mission, B.C., where they found a cannabis grow-operation.
At the location, they found 2,717 plants in 12 rooms at a residence and business.
RCMP stated that although the property owner had a license to grow medicinal cannabis, the number of plants exceeded the legal permit.
The property has been deemed uninhabitable due to extensive damage caused by the grow operation, according to RCMP.
The property and everything on it has been referred to the Civil Forfeiture Office for review.
Four people located inside (none of whom were the owner) have since been released as the investigation continues on.
