The 2019 Oscars swag bag is full of weed

The 2019 Oscars swag bag is full of weed

‘Tis the season to celebrate the film industry’s biggest blockbusters of 2018. Yes, it’s time for the Oscars.

The glitzy Academy Awards ceremony hosts Hollywood’s elite, dripping in jewels and garb from the fashion industry’s finest designers. But before hitting the red carpet, a handful of nominees are spoiled with a gift bag worth upwards of $100,000. Every year, 25 celebrities from the acting and directing categories receive a bag of bizarre and obnoxiously overpriced items—ranging from trending technology to extravagant vacations.

It seems the Academy took the “high” part of ‘high-end’ quite literally when compiling items for this year’s luxury grab bag, adding not one but four weed-infused treats.

To get audiences salivating with jealousy, and a touch of bewilderment, a recent release broke down the self-care themed lot. It’s brimming with luxury wellness retreats, “phobia relief” therapy, gilded beauty creams, fancy dental floss, and pot.

Of course, these aren’t the average knickknacks that come in weedy swag bags—there are no plastic doob tubes, branded Bic lighters, or wallet-sized grind cards. These are cannabis products strictly tailored to the tastes of an a-lister.

Coda Signature has contributed a gift box of lavish weed-infused chocolates and topicals. The Colorado company took home first place in the 2016 High Times Cannabis Cup for its lemon, juniper, and Earl Grey tea truffles, each artfully painted and infused with 10 milligrams of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). Coda Siganture also produces infused bath bombs, skin salves, and vape concentrates—all made with the ‘world’s finest’ ingredients.

Nominees get an annual VIP membership to the exclusive cannabis social club, MOTA Los Angeles, including guest passes for three equally glamorous friends.

The gift bag also features the world’s trendiest cannabinoid right now—CBD. The compound quickly became a staple of the health and wellness industry for its role in the plant’s notable anti-inflammatory and anxiety-busting properties. Nominees can slather their already-flawless skin with High Beauty’s line of cannabis sativa seed extract moisturizers or CBDRxSupreme’s anti-aging treatment.

Also tossed into the pile of strange swag is a glow-in-the-dark Mister Poop emoji plunger, a PETA “Agent for Animals” spy pen, the world’s first silent wearable breast pump by Elvie Pump, and a handmade ZuZu Kim couture bow tie.

Among the celebrities to receive the items are Spike Lee, Lady Gaga, Viggo Mortensen, and Regina King. The 91st Academy Awards is set to take place on February 24, 2019.

Kirk's journey through the digital realm began with lines of code and algorithms dancing in his dreams. Armed with a keyboard and an insatiable curiosity, he embarked on the path of software engineering. However, fate had a smoky twist in store for him. As the ones and zeros swirled around him, Kirk had an epiphany – he realized that he was more interested in the highs and lows of the cannabis industry than debugging lines of code. With a leap of faith that would make a bungee jumper blush, he bid farewell to the world of semicolons and database queries and embraced the intoxicating allure of cannabis journalism. Now, Kirk finds himself navigating a different kind of network, one that's all about buds, trichomes, and terpenes. Armed with a pen that's mightier than a vaporizer and a keen eye for detail, he's on a mission to unravel the mysteries of the green world.
