Is something really hashtag-worthy if it hasn’t received a K-stamp of approval? Well, weed just got endorsed by the celebrity family in a big way.
When a reporter for E! News asked Kim Kardashian-West if she’s planning to host a baby shower for her brewing baby boy, she responded it would be “rude” not to. During an interview at the launch of her new sunglasses line, the celebrity famous for, well, being famous said she is “high-key freaking out” expecting her fourth baby with husband Kanye West. As such, the couple is organizing a relaxing and meditative ceremony to welcome the new addition.
Her last shower, for now one-year-old daughter Chicago, was a cherry-blossom-pink “tea for three” set inside a forest of sakura trees. This time, the Kardashian-Wests are chilling out to a cannabidiol (CBD)-themed prenatal party.
CBD, a non-intoxicating compound found in cannabis, is currently taking the wellness industry by storm, popping up in everything from energy bars and smoothies to makeup and hair treatments. The cannabis and hemp derivative has gained popularity because of its widely acknowledged health benefits, like its anti-inflammatory and anxiety busting properties.
‘This year, because I am freaking out so much, I just want a Zen-like CBD-themed baby shower,’ Kardashian said to E! News. ‘I just want massages, I want to do, like, a tea ceremony with crystals, and we’re going to have a drink at this baby shower—we’re not pregnant. Just meditation, the calm-before-the-storm shower.’
Due to a uterine condition that causes painful and dangerous complications during labour, this is the couple’s second child via surrogacy.
Cannabis is not federally legal in the United States, but the regulations around CBD vary state-by-state. In 2018, President Donald Trump passed the Agricultural Improvement Act of 2018—commonly referred to as the Farm Bill—which removed hemp’s classification as a Schedule I drug. Under a new definition as an “agricultural commodity”, hemp-derived CBD containing less than 0.3 percent THC and grown by a licensed cultivator is legal.
The Kardashian-West’s fourth baby is due in May.
